Sample Applications of the Presentation Model of Teaching in Seven Different Judaic Content Areas


When mentoring our pre-service and in-service teachers we need to describe and model both research-based and clinically tested best practices. Accordingly our mentees should know about the Presentation Model of Teaching.

On the chart below you will find some additional lesson plan ideas in seven content areas that can be transmitted by the teacher using the Presentation Model of Teaching.

Judaic Topic

TANACH

(Bible)

Select any story, parshah, or prophet in the Tanach and explain it to your students.


TEFILAH

(Prayer)

Explain the meaning of these terms: Avodah (Jewish worship), the siddur, brachot, the Jewish worship service including Birkot HaShachar, P-sukei d'Zimrah, Sh’ma Uvirchoteha, Amidah, Kriat HaTorah, Aleinu and the Kaddish, Special liturgy including the Kabbalat Shabbat, Tachanun, Hallel, holiday liturgy, Jewish people, places and things such as Shaliach Tzibur, Hazzan, Rabbi and Gabbai, the synagogue, tallit, tefillin, and kipah


HISTORY

Explain any event or story in Jewish history from Abraham to the present.


HEBREW

Present any Hebrew letter, word, phrase, prayer, or middah, and explain it to your students.


HOLIDAYS

(Hagim)

Explain any Jewish holiday including Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh.


ISRAEL


Select any topic on Israel such as its geography, cities, populations, music, art, food, technology, languages, religions, politics, economy, etc., and present it to your students.


MIDDOT

(Virtues)

Explain the meaning of any of the middot listed in the appendix of Toolbox for Teachers and Mentors: Moving Madrichim to Mentor Teachers and Beyond.
